Information technology
IT is a truly integrated function that facilitates more effective working and closer teamwork in pursuit of competitive advantage. As such, it encompasses a hugely diverse range of roles and projects. You could be exploring emerging markets and new ways to work globally. You could be partnering a major retailer to develop a web-enabled tool for promotions planning. You could be helping manage our own technology infrastructure. Broadly IT falls into four areas.
Strategy & planning
Strategy manages technology deployment to support business goals. Architecture and technical planning specifies systems architectures, identifying emerging technologies and techniques. Portfolio, programme and project management coordinates projects and personnel during the design, management and implementation of business change initiatives. Information management designs information structures, setting policies for sourcing, maintenance and analysis.
Innovation
Business analysis evaluates functions and processes, identifies how to improve them and qualifies the potential business benefits. IT analysis and development manages resources in order to plan and carry out projects.
Business partnering
Provides advice, assistance and leadership to the business to maximise benefit from the products and services available. The team acts as the 'one face of IT' to the rest of the organisation and represents all areas in business engagement.
Services
Vendor partnering sources and manages external suppliers and negotiates contracts to continuously improve service delivery. Service delivery and management covers everything from risk management to network infrastructures.
